BIOGRAFIE: Jakob Pilgram is Lied and concert singer both at home and abroad, and is a member of several professional vocal ensembles such as the Balthasar Neumann Choir and the Origen-Ensemble. While he was still a student he founded the award-winning vocal ensemble larynx. As a guest soloist he has appeard at the Theater Basel, Bühnen Bern and the Luzerner Theater, and has been a permanent fixture at the Festival Cultural Origen since 2005, wher he has been heard in numerous productions. Jakob is a prize winner of the international competition Schubert und die Musik der Moderne, the study-prize of the Migros Genossenschaftsbund, and of the Friedl Wald Foundation. In 2008 he was awarded the Special Prize for Lied interpretation by the Basler Orchester Gesellschaft.Jakob Pilgram lives and works as a tenor and conductor in Basel, a city in which, once upon a time, acquired those particula skills and tools necessary for an artistic existence. As a child, he already showed an interest in numbers - which almost seduced him into studying mathematics instead of music - and so learnt from an early age how to deal with the various rhythmic forms and structures inherent in musical composition. During his studies he extended and complemented his abilities, concerning himself with all the various different tonal areas represented in the circle of fifths, and he remains to this day a fluent master in all of them, sure of intonation and strong of expression, all the way up to six accidentals in the key signature. He is particularly interested in repertoire from largo assai through andante sostenuto all the way up to molto vivace. He attended masterclasses on the subjects of "Rubato – ma non troppo!", "Hemiolas – how to identify and cook them safely" or "Nailing a cadenza while under the influenza". Jakob Pilgram sings in cold, warm and mean temperatures, works happily alone or in team-type situations, and is used to coolly strumming his vocal chords even under the most stressful coloraturical conditions. |
